Greta (2018)

Greta (2018)- Kindness can be dangerous.
Neil Jordan — the acclaimed director of The Crying Game — returns with a psychological thriller that creeps under your skin in the most unexpected ways. Greta opens with a simple act of goodwill: Frances, a young waitress new to New York City, finds a handbag on the subway and returns it to its owner, Greta, an elegant but lonely French woman. What seems like the beginning of a sweet, unlikely friendship soon unravels into a chilling nightmare.

Isabelle Huppert is absolutely magnetic as Greta — gentle one moment, terrifying the next. Her performance carries the film with quiet intensity and eerie charm. Chloë Grace Moretz brings emotional depth to Frances, portraying a young woman trying to do good, yet trapped in something she can’t fully understand — or escape.

The strength of Greta lies not only in its suspenseful plot but also in its slow psychological unraveling. It’s not just a thriller — it’s a character study of loneliness, manipulation, and how one person’s need for connection can turn into something dark. The film’s pacing, accompanied by a haunting score and stylish cinematography, keeps viewers uneasy, even when nothing “big” is happening.

There are moments that may feel familiar if you’ve seen other stalker thrillers, but Greta adds its own touch of elegance, with a strong female cast and a haunting atmosphere that lingers long after the credits roll.

Rating: 7.5/10 – A slow-burning, stylish thriller that will make you think twice before picking up a stranger’s lost bag.
